The philosophy behind JDA Project is to craft a Rocks District Syrah that feels velvety, clean, and elegant, with depth and staying power. The goal is to avoid a heavy-handed “funky” profile and instead build complexity through umami and seductive aromatics, with a focus on purity.
Matt’s approach was shaped early through mentorship with Christophe Baron, where he learned the importance of developing a personal point of view and paying close attention to how a wine responds to different vessels. That curiosity still drives the process. Fermentations are native, and the élevage is chosen because it best serves the wine in a given year, not because it matches a fixed recipe.

JDA Project is made and cellared at the Reynvaan winery, benefiting from the same hands-on precision and cellar philosophy that has defined Reynvaan’s acclaimed wines. The craft is guided by instinct and experience, similar to a chef cooking by feel rather than by formula. The work is patient and deliberate, built on years of due diligence and experimentation before our first release. Drawing on his experience, Matt has guided every farming decision toward a style and level of quality we believe is not currently represented in Washington Syrah. The goal is balance and dimension, where JDA Project strives to earn its place among the world’s benchmark wines.
